Beta 2.0 Available: Spreadsheets!
Ok, “spreadsheets” is a hyperbole… Since August, I started working on making Play SQL read-write. When datasources are configured so, users will be able to create tables and edit data.
With this feature, Confluence can be used as an enterprise repository for tabular data. I hope users will start enjoying advanced macros. I’ll participate in educating them to SQL!
For the time being, the only two types are text and integers. There’s a little bonus: Icon rendering. More renderers are in the pipe, you’d be surprised.
Setup Wizard
I’ve noticed a few questions about on-boarding so I’ve created a wizard.
-
- The snippet view of the macro displays the query name and the space of origin. Macros can be copy-pasted to other spaces.
Why “Spreadsheets”? What’s next?
Editing tables from Confluence can already be considered as spreadsheets, especially since you can write your own queries for custom reports. Along the next weeks, the product will transform into a reporting weapon. Beware!
Here’s my immediate roadmap:
- Support more data types
- Add renderers for links and dates
- Get feedback from users and choose what has the most value among thousands of possible features.
